Lucky

Officially named Lucky Asset, Lucky was one of Hope's baby's. The Asset in her name came from Tasha's little sister's name Tessa, and Lucky was our Asset. Completely black with golden eyes, she had a bad shoulder when we found her.  The wound was about the size of a dime and smelled very bad.  We treated the wound with antibiotic cream and peroxide that night, but the next day we took a better look and wasn't sure whether the kitten would make it or not.  The skin was rotting around the wound badly and it looked like it went into muscle.  We shaved the area and cut away a lot of the dead rotting tissue.  It was horrible.  We couldn't really afford a vet bill at the time, so we sought all the free advice we could get from Tasha's father.  The result was that we continued to cut away the dead and rotting skin, cleaned the wound several times a day vigorously with anti-bacterial soap and hydrogen peroxide, and gave the kitten shots of penicillin.  The result was a cat with a shaved and bleached shoulder who ought to have hated our guts, but loved us anyway.  She was healthy and beautiful with only a tiny scar to show for the ordeal.  She  won the hearts not only of us, but also the three older cats who live in the house with her. Unfortunately she did not like to stay in the house. She had a wild heart wanting to be free. We tried and tried to keep her in but she always found a way out. She would go though Baker's legs when we would let him out and there was no way of stopping her.    Most of the time, when she got out she would always be back on the front porch  by dark.  One really bad night she did not come home.  Tasha and I  went looking for her the next day and found her by the road.   We cried over her for a very long time.    Lucky had several nicknames, although they seem to revolve around a basic theme.  Some examples are, Devil Child, Black Demon, Demon Child.   We still miss you Lucky.
